why are they even trying this its dumb but still i think your right.

Oh And I forgot The big bang was made by a SUPER HOT BIG ATOM they cant do thing such as that... or they do?

Big Bang theory is bullshit

You'd best be trolling you russian furfag shitwit. The atom bomb was supposed to blow up the earth. 06/06/06 was supposed to be the apocalypse. Also, GLOBAL WARMING.

Just go back to making your dumb games. I find it funny how you can gripe about something like the LHC when your very own flash game uses a similar principle as part of the gameplay.

go fuck yourself

Its Ironic what tehpistolshrimp said, considering one of my favorite webcomics, Userfriendly, made mention of it being Halflife like, by having one of the physicists in an orange jumpsuit in one of the comics...I'd link it but its buried in the archives at this point

I hope this is satire, but it is so hard to tell.

If a black hole created it will evaporate almost instantly and even if hawking radiation doesn't exist (very close to impossible now) it would take at least millions of years for a black hole that small to consume enough mass to become dangerous.

>at least millions of years for a black hole that small to consume enough mass to become dangerous.

Do you have a degree in nuclear physics?
I don't. So I read what other people have to say on the problem.

Like I said before there are various theories - from a fraction of a second to several thousand years. The fact is - no one knows for sure.

nu chuvak, ne horosho tak botanov pugat'....

zato kamentov mnogo smeshnih ))))))))))) lololool

- This experiment does not cause black holes (not small black holes either...).

- The reason for this speculation is that the particles will (maybe) reach the Schwarzschild radius so light emitted from the particle core (which will not happen) can't escape.

- If the black hole is really created, it will vanish immediately anyway - only particles created at this state will be able to be detected.

- Furthermore, the interactions between particles near the speed of light happens all the time in our atmosphere - and guess what; there haven't been any sign of black holes within the Earth's atmosphere...

Rumors were made by
- The people on CERN, claiming that a black hole will appear (without mentioning that it's a lie); if the an object with a Schwarzschild radius is created, it will disappear immedietly
- Those who called a lawsuit against CERN regarding 'Violation Of Human Rights'
- People who like to predict doomsday
- Idiots who have no clue what the LHC experiment is all about and just heard the 'black hole part'

Personal comment/predictions
- The experiement will be an epic fail.
- No results from this experiment will be usable in quantum physics.
- There will be no such thing as 'Higgs' particles.
- There will be no such thing as a 5th dimension (nor 4th dimension).

>This experiment does not cause black holes (not small black holes either...).

who the hell are you to say that? GOD? Scientists at CERN who do this experiments say that mBH are possible.

>Furthermore, the interactions between particles near the speed of light happens all the time in our atmosphere - and guess what; there haven't been any sign of black holes within the Earth's atmosphere...

oh fuck.... another wise ass who hasn't even read my post. I'VE MENTIONED THIS IN MY POST.

>Personal comment/predictions

I agree on every point here :P

uuhm yea sure... A blackhole will appear... I don't think these things happen easily.

Since we are trying to do something that the universe takes millions of years to make. So I agree with some others. Nothing will happen.

PS: Nuclear reactors arent blowing up every year right? These have about the same risks as that huge thing can make a blackhole. Same end of the world thing and it hasn't happen. Stop listening to Hippies.

>I don't think these things happen easily.
true
we have to make the biggest machine ever to make things happen

Well... I think best way is to stay cool.
It's like the millenium in 1999. You remeber? Everyone said, in the year 2000 everything ends because Computers will be fucked up and stuff...
No everyone yells theories of black holes and stuff...
I'm going to do same thing as I did at the 31' Dezember 1999... Nothing ^^
Even if you worrie, you can't do anything against... not as one person

So ^^
I think it's just another story telled by newspapers and scientists (who want themself to be famous) to worry some people :)

loool so this is where all our taxes go ? I vote beating the shit out of the idiots who came up with this idea and destroying the LHC. I wouldnt mind if even terrorists were involved in destroying that thing. I cant believe how ignorant an educated man can be...And the people who are building it. Is money really above all senses? What does money matter if we're ALL DEAD? I just hope this whole thing some how passes...or sometihng...

there is a chance LHC will blow up instead of producing anything dangerous (sux to be france lol)

check the "interesting interview" link at the end of my post

Thousands of cosmic particles (with speeds / energies far greater than the ones produced in the LHC) hit our planet every second. We just don't happen to have millions of $ worth of sensors in the exact spots to watch them.
Think having a camera watching this will suddenly make the world die?

People like you who get irrationally afraid of something like this really stop our world moving forwards.

Blah blah blah
I've explained why this is not the same as what would happen in LHC in my post.
READ THE FUCKING THING BEFORE COMMENTING

Despite the videos, the post and all the replies i have read, i still don't get why they are doing this. We dont realy need what they are working on...

for teh lulz

Well, I am a little afraid now. I don`t now how the hell this fucking works but I debut that it will create a black hole, black holes has never been observed by scientists and, as hawking radiation, they are only a theory. well, we con do nothing now but to wait and pray.

P.S.
Sorry for the bad spelling I am mexican

Hey, while your fears are valid (i about shat myself the first time i heard about this crazy thing) just chill. Humanity has had one helluva run. what is it now 20k years or something like that? Anyways, while i wish they'd stop this experiment till we know for certain what will happen, i know they won't. Maybe somebody will attack it or something.

nuke lhc
yay! :P

Remember this though they said that the big bang and the black hole or what ever things were just a THEORY(for science launguage its a GUESS) and the chances as they said is a Million to 1 or like a grain of sand hitting a mine in antartica and blowing it up

I doubt there is enough information to calculate the actual chances.

:O the apocalypse is finally coming? i thought i wouldnt come until 2011. did you know the Maya predicted that the world would end at December Something, 2011? i wonder if this will truly end humanity.

I do not believe in prophesies

also, Taloc111, the chances of that happening are more likely to be a Quintillion to One. :D

The day the world ends is the day pigs can fly, horses talk, and monkeys suddenly developing a nuclear warhead without help from humanity. This is also revelant cause it involves giant flying flamingos coming from Pluto :D

think whatever you want
if ignorance is the only way you can cope with the world so be it

You have to be joking. This HAS to be a joke. I think you need to read 'A brief history of time' about 4 more times. Your understanding of black holes is frightning.

You can't just watch a bunch of YouTube videos, and read a hand full of Wikipedia articles and suddenly become a astrophysicist. Its just plane stupidity when you panic over something you don't even come CLOSE to understanding.

Thanks to the fundamentals of black holes, (witch can be backed up by observation and mathematics), the smaller the black hole, the shorter its life. Black Holes don't grow. You don't feed them matter and watch them get bigger, they consume mass, and evaporate, that's why we cal them singularities. They do things that don't make scene to us, but just because we don't understand why, doesn't mean at any section its likely to show us something we have NEVER observed, where all or mathematics and observation are proven wrong in an instant, and a black hole for the first time in recorded history, grows and consumes the earth.

Don't you understand that if black holes worked the way you think they do, that our univers would have been consumed long before the earth coalesced?

The problem is, human nature is to fear what we do not understand. Its big, its powerful, and you could never in your lifetime fully understand how it works, so you are afraid of it. You latch on to these 'what if' ideas and demand that the evil machine of death be stopped.

Stop your pointless crusade and go spend a few years in collage learning the fundamentals upon witch you base your opinion. Yes, because of the money spent, its not going to be stopped , but don't you think they thought of the dangers years before the construction began? They didn't start out with no idea what was going on.

When a scientist says "we have no idea what will happen when we turn it on." He doesn't mean it literally. We have many ideas of what it will do, but we don't know witch will occur specifically. We know what most likely will happen, but the chances of your particle death scenario are less of a risk than the chance of sudden death from Asteroid impact. Actually, its about 900,000 times more likely that between now and the moment the reactor turns on, a huge chunk of ice and rock from the Kyper belt comes crashing into the earth, but I don't see people like you protesting that we need to watch more of the sky for space rocks.

Science can cure your diseases, and insure your stable life, and still you do not trust it. Science can give you the computer upon witch you type your madness, and still yet, you do not trust it. Science has propagated our species since the stone age, and yet, you still fight it, you still fear it, you still want to do away with these damn people and their damn questions and go back to sitting in silence, never questioning the world around you.

I read and watched everything you have in your post, and I feel I responded to it as a whole, and now you'll pick one little part out of my response, and respond with a tid bit of 'fact' from above and walk away feeling satisfied.

The bottom line is, you need to have a little more trust in those who seek to better our world. You trust your leaders more than scientists, and no leader of any country is required to attend ANY sort of formal education before election.

>You can't just watch a bunch of YouTube videos, and read a hand full of Wikipedia articles and suddenly become a astrophysicist.

True, I dont have enough knowledge to make my own opinion on the problem.
However there are numerous scientists all over the world who say that LHC is dangerous. So I'm giving links to interviews and articles by people who are educated enough to criticize CERN.
Are you saying that they all are idiots?

>The bottom line is, you need to have a little more trust in those who seek to better our world.

Blah blah blah

All humanity seek is a better way to kill. Every new invention is used by the military first. Why the fuck do we have nuclear arsenal twice as big as would be required to destroy the whole civilization?

"They say that the energies involved in the experiment are less then two mosquitoes colliding, that is a stupid explanation for stupid people. Mosquitoes don't smash into each other at the speed of light."

This, right here proves your lack of understanding of physics. The mosquitoes don't have to travel at eh speed of light to have the same energy as subatomic particles travelling at (nearly) the speed of light.
Let's look at it in terms of momentum, and using made up units of measurement, because it's very simple this way.
Momentum = Velocity x Mass
The particle has a mass of 1 mass unit (mu), and a velocity of 1 000 000 000 velocity units (vu).
The mosquitoe has a mass of 1000 000 000 mu, and a velocity of 1 vu.
particle momentum = 1mu x 1 000 000 000vu = 1 000 000 000 muvu
mosquitoe momentum = 1 000 000 000mu x 1vu = 1 000 000 000muvu
So, particle momentum = mosquitoe momentum
And since the momentum is directly proportionate to the kinetic energy collisions inlove equal energy.

Also, the vast majority of scientists agree that it's incredibly likely that nothing involving a blackhole destroying the planet will happen. The exception being that one guy with the flawed logic, lack of understanding of the physics involved, and the immense desire to be on TV. I'm starting to wonder if you read all the links you provided.

If you're so sure it's going to end the world, why aren't you planning to blow it up? If you understand it as well as you claim you do, you know that blowing it up won't have negative effects like destoying, say, the H-Bomb would have. Then answer is either that you value your own life over everyone else on the planet and believe that if you're not alive there's no point in having an Earth anyway, or that you don't really believe it and you get off scaring idiots.

I'm going to laugh at you a year from now when the world hasn't ended.

<This, right here proves your lack of understanding of physics. The mosquitoes don't have to travel at eh speed of light to have the same energy as subatomic particles travelling at (nearly) the speed of light.

You misunderstood me. I was not talking about energies, colliding mosquitoes do not produce black holes, while colliding hadrons in the lhc, according to lhc staff, likely will.

>Also, the vast majority of scientists agree that it's incredibly likely that nothing involving a blackhole destroying the planet will happen.

Majority used to believe that earth is flat. Do not forget about that.

"Incredibly likely" != "it wont"
still

And they add the word "incredibly" just because their job depends on LHC project.

From what I've read the staff say that blackholes are not only unlikely, but also harmless.

The flat Earth thing is a common misconception. Pretty much ever since there was science the Earth has been known as round. The ancient Greeks knew.

I think anyone weighing the importance of keeping their job and destroying the planet would choose to lose their job.

It also bothers me that all the critics reach the same conclusion but take a different path there, while all the proponents take the same path to the same conclusion. If you ask 100 people who think the collider will destroy the planmet why, you're likely to get dozens of answers. But ask 100 people what they thinik will happen that does not involve destruction of the planet, and they'll tell you the same thing.

You're doing exactly what Nanashi said you would do. You're only responding to parts of the comments. Tell me whether you're going to blow up the LHC or that you're just messing with people.

Why do people make websites explaining why the LHC will destroy the planet, and launch baseless lawsuits, instead of destroying the thing themselves? If I believed something was going to destroy the planet I'd sacrifice myself to stop it. Wouldn't everybody?

>Tell me whether you're going to blow up the LHC or that you're just messing with people.

I wish I could. bought a nuke at e-bay, but I still dont have enough money for an ICBM launcher. WILL YOU GIVE ME YOUR MONEY???? FOR THE SAKE OF THE PLANET!

>Why do people make websites explaining why the LHC will destroy the planet, and launch baseless lawsuits, instead of destroying the thing themselves?

Umm.. srsly dude.. are you high? You cant just go to other country and destroy stuff there. Especially if it is9 999 999 999$ expensive stuff.
