Project Wasteland Needs Testers! Help!

Posted by dz2001 - July 24th, 2010

[PLAY PROJECT WASTELAND V0.5TEST]

Here's a new test version of my RPG.
There are 6 missions on 3 maps and a shop. The game is saved after you complete a mission or exit the shop.

If you DIE - reload the game.. yeah im lazy. xD

Stats affect the following: STR - melee and weight, AGI - movement/action points, melee and armor, PER - mostly shooting,END - hit points and damage resistance, LUK - critical hits.

Red syringe-thingy is a stimpack, it restores hit-points. Put it to quickslots to use.

I'm looking forward to your feedback. Was it too hard? Have you finished all the missions? How many times did you die? Have you found any bugs?

Cannot beat the first enemies...no weapons? Help?

Thats kind of a test too. The first level will be a tutorial... there is no tutorial there at the moment xD.

IS IT REALLY SO HARD TO SEE A BAG FULL OF STUFF IN FRONT OF YOU?

When the game is finished there will be a tutorial in pictures. Like GO TO THE BAG - CLICK THE BAG - TAKE ITEMS- ACCESS INVENTORY - PUT GUN INTO GUN SLOT - KNIFE TO KNIFE SLOT - STIMPACK TO QUICKSLOTS.

For some reason I am unable to attack during the first mission scorpion nest and there is no where I can go to get a weapon at the start

c above

the game is wicked

meow :3

I got my furry ass kicked by some scorpions. lol how do i attack?

If you click on your gun to shoot, but then decide to do something else, there is no intuitive option that clears it. The only way is to click somewhere on the lefthand column thing. It should be able to be cleared by clicking on the gun again. Same with melee weapons.

There's no (obvious) option to reload manually either through inventory or by interacting with the weapon box. There should be some obvious option to reload manually in both place.

There need to be tooltips for the stats.

Ranged accuracy with 5 perception is absolute garbage, even at point-blank. This really doesn't make sense. I mean, it shouldn't be that high without high perception, but 36% at a few squares away? 68% at just 1 square between you and the enemy? Is anyone really that bad at shooting who isn't partially blind?

Items stats. How do I see them? I don't see any way to accomplish that.

Picking up items on the map. It should be possible to pick up items that you are standing on. There does not seem to be a way to do this.

>The only way is to click somewhere on the lefthand column thing.

actually you click anywhere on the screen

>It should be able to be cleared by clicking on the gun again.

yeah, forgot about that :D

>There's no (obvious) option to reload manually

there is actually, there are two buttons next to the gun slot, cycling actions. Single shot, Aimed shot, Reload, Burst

>Ranged accuracy with 5 perception is absolute garbage

Have you tried upgrading firearms skill?

>Items stats. How do I see them?

there are none. Dont have time for that, lots of other, more important, things to do.

>It should be possible to pick up items that you

Thats kind of a minor problem. I might think about that when everything else is finished.

How do you attack. the only item you get is a black coat? What am i supposed to do, throw it on their heads and run away? lol. A guide would be pretty helpful.

for people haveing troble at finding the weapons on the first lvl look for a small bag close to you. awesome game. die 2 easly. srry for my horrible spelling :(

I like the game concept looks pretty good idk why people are having trouble with the first lvl the first 1 is super easy and the second is a little harder but all u rly have to do is double team the pistle enemy and your golden lol But anyway i cant wait for this game to be finished looks like its going to be super fun and enjoyable to play. Keep up the good work :D

Alright, Pretty solid engine, a few things I saw.

1.) After every completed mission, you needed to reload the game.

2.) From what I can tell you can't gain actual levels, it looks like it's been locked.

3.) How did no one else see the loot pack in front of them when the game starts?

But in all seriousness, pretty good thing ya got here. I really can't wait ta see what's gunna be next ^.^

Why don't the enemies move, when my MPs and APs come to an end?

I mean, I have to press "skip turn" even though there aren't any more movement and action points left

meh... thats such a minor thing....
I'll deal with it LATER

So far the game is looking good, but you can definetely tell it is a work in progress. First of all I found that, when you moved, one point was used on the space you are already on. I don't know if this was intentional, I'm just pointing it out. Secondly I never found a reason to use the melee weapon because the ranged weapons seemed superior even in close quarters. Third I think the main character needs more health or enemies need to be weaker; multiple times I found myself being killed by a single spider without having a chance to retaliate. I also found it annoying that the enemies had more MP than me but if you want the game to but it wasn't so annoying that it needs to be taken out. Lastly, I never found a reason to participate in battles until everyone had killed each other. There are some levels where this was probably the intention (like the second visit to spider's grotto), but even in places like the first time in the junkyard I felt no need to help my allies (especially since they turn into enemies after all of the scorpions and spiders are killed). The only way I could think to fix this so that players would have to be an active part of battles would be to give enemies unlimited sight range onthe levels where you want them to fight instead of waiting. Anyway these were all the problems I encountered, none of these are game-breaking, but with all of them in combination they do limit the fun somewhat.

>First of all I found that, when you moved, one point was used on the space you are already on.

I know. Too lazy to fix that now :D
Just move where you want to in one click.

>I never found a reason to use the melee weapon because the ranged weapons seemed superior even in close quarters.

Hammer deals a lot of damage. And doesn't use ammo.

>I think the main character needs more health or enemies need to be weaker

Thats balancing problem. I need like 50 times more feedback to do anything in that direction. I'm going to release a test version on armorgames soon.

>I never found a reason to participate in battles until everyone had killed each other

Hiding will be harder on later missions.
